Gate House Museum Events

The Gatehouse Museum will be closed on Sundays in April.

This is to allow the curator to prepare a new exhibit.

Look for the new exhibit in May:

A knight from the Middle Ages, portrayed by Tom Smith, bestows knighthood on Shelbie K. at “Sir Knight.”  Sir Knight brought his shield, sword, and armor and spoke about his life as a Crusader.

Sergeant Tom Smith, a soldier with the Confederate Army, talks about his weapons with brothers Scott and Justin Harris at "A Confederate Soldier's Story," the second of four events in Sykesville Gate House Museum's Summer Family Program.

Children enjoyed touching turtles, giant tortoises, monitor lizards, snakes, and large pythons on June 10 as the Sykesville Gate House Museum held the first of its four Summer Family Program events, "Reptile Wonders."  Brian Kristal of Nature to Go presented a hands-on, interactive program and discussed the animals' habitat and environment, along with predator/prey relationships.

Ryan W., age 12, holds an insect called a walking stick at “Beautiful Bugs,” the last of four events in Sykesville Gate House Museum’s Summer Family Program, held on Sunday, August 26.
