On June 13th, 2009, Sergeant Michael Blair of the Sykesville Police Department’s Auxiliary Unit was honored at the Knights of Columbus Awards Banquet for being named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.  After serving only 2 ½ years as an officer on the Auxiliary Unit, his accomplishments have gone a long way in ensuring our quality of life in the Town of Sykesville.

Some of the many contributions made by Sergeant Blair are serving as liaison with Sykesville’s business owners, conducting foot patrols in the community and school crossing details, directing traffic flow during accidents and power outages, educating individuals at town events on information and resources concerning preventative home safety tips, house checks, etc. and more.   This is only a small portion of services Sergeant Blair provides our community and its citizens.

Sergeant Blair and his wife, Pat, who also donates much of her personal time to this cause, were the guests of honor at the banquet along with a Carroll County educator and clergyman who were also honored for their work and dedication to the community.  All three were recognized by the Knights of Columbus for the services they provide their community and the impact their work has had on Carroll County.

NEW OFFICERS

The Sykesville Police Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Police Officer Elizabeth Duvall.

The Sykesville Police Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Police Officer Elizabeth Duvall.  Officer Duvall was sworn in at the Town Council Meeting held January 12th, 2009 and brings to the Town of Sykesville her public safety experience and knowledge.    Prior to her law enforcement career, Officer Duvall was a member of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary.  Being a part of that environment piqued her interest in law enforcement and entered the academy.  Upon graduating she was hired by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office where she served almost 2 years.   Before her law enforcement career, Office Duvall chose to stay home to raise her sons, Cody and Dylan, ages 9 and 11, respectively.  We are extremely fortunate to have such an outstanding employee on staff and look forward to her service to our community.
